Thomas Lovell's Tomb

The tombs on either side of the east window are of members of the Lovell family, the one without inscription being that of Sir Francis Lovell who died in 1550. Over the tombs are helmets of the 17th century, probably from the 'Town Armour' used by militia-men whom the parish was obliged to produce and arm.

Enscribed: "Here lieth bvried Sir Thomas Lovel Knyght and Dame and Dame Elizabeth his wyf which lived together in Godly marriage 29 years and hadde yssue 9 sonnes and 6 daughters. The sayd Sir Thomas decssed in the year of our Lord God 1567, the 23 of March and Dame Elizabeth decessed in the year of our Lord God 1591 the last of March.
