Sir Francis Lovell's Tomb
The tombs on either side of the east window are of members of the Lovell family, this one without inscription being that of Sir Francis Lovell who died in 1551. Over the tombs are helmets of the 17th century, probably from the 'Town Armour' used by militia-men whom the parish was obliged to produce and arm. The plaque next to this tomb says: "This monument without inscription marks the tomb of Sir Francis Lovell, Knight. He was Lord of this Manor from 1524 to his death 21 Jan 1551. 2nd Son of Sir Gregory Lovell, Knt, of Barton Bendish and heir to his uncle Sir Thomas Lovell, Knight of the Garter also of Dame Elizabeth his wife, daughter of George Ashfield of Harefield, Middlesex who died 12th February 1551. They had issue of: Sir thomas Lovell, Knight, of East Harling and Gregory Lovell Esq. of Merton, Surrey."
