Hammerbeam Roof at East Harling Church

A sense of space and grace is given by the tall slender pillars and the light from eighteen clerestory windows. Above these windows the magnificent hammerbeam roof is unusually steeply pitched and rises to a height of 45 feet from the floor. The angle of the roof has been compared to hands touching at the finger-tips, in an attitude of prayer.

Pyx
The beam at the east end of the nave retains the pulley by which the pyx containing the host, the consecrated bread, was raised in front of the Rood, or crucifix. The chancel contains six miserere stalls, of which four still retain their original seats.
